Our uniquely designed program serves all 100 counties across North Carolina. Supported by a grant from the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, Child-Focused Recruitment follows the Foundation’s Wendy’s Wonderful Kids® model by working to achieve permanency for the longest-waiting children in foster care. Its strategic approach to building relationships between children and past connections leads to significantly more matches.
The model begins with a thorough review of the child’s case file, extensively searching for relatives, and other connections in the child’s network. As we build relationships with community partners, extended family, and potential placements, we also work with the child to identify their wants, needs, and hopes for the future. We then establish a plan to recruit the family that best meets the child’s needs and prepare the child for future family relationships. This winning approach leads to more adoptions, especially adoptions of older children.
Once a child is matched with a family through Child-Focused Recruitment, our innovative Family Education and Support service goes into effect. We pair experienced Permanency Support Trainers with caregivers to provide resources and develop a plan to support the journey to permanency, whether that is reunification, guardianship, or adoption.
