The Lighthouse Series: Effective Parent Advocacy

October 14 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Ready to feel more confident advocating for your child? Join us to explore effective tips for meaningful parent participation, effective communication, building strong relationships, staying organized, preparing for IEP meetings, and understanding your rights under Section 504 and IDEA. We’ll also take a quick look at dispute resolution options so you can feel prepared to speak up and partner with your child’s team. The Lighthouse Series is a monthly guest speaker series where parents can get insider information on the latest resources, supports, and services. Hear from local experts and community partners as they share on topics that matter most to families. Each session shines a light on a different resource to help you stay ahead, stay connected, and support lasting permanency. Anastacia Newton joined ECAC in 2022 as a Parent Educator. Previously, she worked as an Exceptional Children's teacher for preschoolers with special needs. She became interested in working with students with special needs early on when her sister was diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD and later Autism. She began learning as much as she could about best practices for teaching students with various abilities and obtained her Master’s degree in Special Education from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte followed by an additional degree in Early Childhood Inclusion from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Shortly after obtaining this degree, her own son was born with complex needs, requiring early intervention services. In her spare time, Anastacia enjoys reading, painting, and spending time with her son. This training is available for CHS families only. You can register by going to SkyPrep at https://bit.ly/SkyPrepLogin.
